Disclaimer – Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) Update
As of July 3, 2025, Congress has reauthorized claims under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) and extended the RECA Trust Fund. This reauthorization also expands eligibility criteria for compensation.
Please note that the U.S. Department of Justice is currently reviewing the amendments to RECA and has not yet issued updated guidance. Claimants are strongly encouraged to wait until this guidance is published before submitting any new claims.
News & Notices from the DOJ Website
RECA applicants may now file claims electronically through the Civil Division’s RECA Claim Portal:
RECA Claim Portal
Each claim will receive an acknowledgement letter once it is filed by the Program. Please note that due to a high volume of applications, there may be a delay with delivery of your acknowledgement letter. Once you receive an acknowledgement letter, please include your RECA Claim Number in any future communications with the RECA Program.
Please do not mail evidence to the RECA Program unless you have an active claim. Any evidence that cannot be matched to an active claim will be destroyed.
Please submit supporting evidence only with a completed claim form, or with a cover page that indicates your RECA Claim Number and the name of the affected individual
The Program is working to issue revised regulations during 2026. Where possible, the RECA Program will use
existing regulations at 28 C.F.R. Part 79 to adjudicate claims until revised regulations are published.
Applicants who elect to file electronically may upload scans of certified or original supporting documentation for their claim. The RECA Program will ask applicants to mail the original or certified records as needed to validate their authenticity.
